Introduction

This course provides those with responsibilities for occupational health and safety operations within organisations or industries, and those intending to pursue a career in this field, with advanced knowledge and skills in the prevention of disease and injury. Students are provided with opportunity to specialise and undertake research in safety management, safety technology, occupational health, hygiene, occupational medicine or other related areas.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A Bachelor of Science degree plus two years of relevant post-qualification work experience. Work experience is assessed on the basis of the following - level of seniority and responsibility, job description, work based referee report, publications or other written reports, short courses or conference attendance.

Specific Requirements

Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication. Completion of an approved certificate in senior first aid is required before the course is awarded. Short on-campus study periods are also a requirement for some units.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. This course is principally conducted in external study mode with some units available internally.

Intermediate Awards I

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award, may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course appear below.
