Introduction

This minor is available to students wishing to make Astronomy an area of interest or focus in their program. Besides being a fascinating subject in its own right, the study of Astronomy enables students to develop a number of technical and generic skillsthat are of value in the workplace to any science graduate. For example - graduates wishing to work in the field of image and data processing, atmospheric and marine sciences, satellite remote sensing, astronomy, information technology and even in business will find this minor of considerable benefit. TEE Physics and Applicable Mathematics on entry into program. To satisfy the requirements for the Astronomy minor, all students must complete 100 credits of Astronomy or astronomy-related units. The recommended sequence of units is 50 credit points comprising - Astronomy 101, Planet Earth 101, Astronomy 201, Astrophysics 302, plus any 50 credit point combination of the following units -Scientific Photography 101, Scientific Data Acquisition 201, Scientific Data Acquisition 202, Scientific Data Analysis 301, Scientific Data Analysis 302, Applied Optics 302. Other similar level units may be substituted for these on consultation with the Head of Applied Physics or Program Co-ordinator.
