Selection is based on academic performance, clinical experience, professional references and an interview. Overseas applicants must have completed a bachelor degree in nursing or a nursing program of three years or more leading to registration, be currently registered in their own country and provide certified documentation to that effect. They mustalso meet the University's usual requirements.

The course is by research and normally requires one to two years of full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Director, Postgraduate Studies, School of Nursing and Midwifery. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical dataanalysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.

Special Note

It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework. Students should not enrol in this research course to receive the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing but rather have undertaken it as a requisite for admission. Overseas applicants must provide evidence of proficiency in English language. If necessary, on acceptance into the course, overseas students are advised of the requirements for provisional registration by the Nurses Board of Western Australia.
