Syllabus: Media and communication. Different theoretical traditions in communication and cultural analysis. The production and exchange of meaning. The history and political economy of mass communications. The state, regulations, licensing and control of mass media. The organisation of different media industries. Ideology and mass media. Television. The internationalisation of mass communications and culture. The popular music industry.
