Distance relaying and impedance protection - CTs, CVTs and VTs, principles of impedance relaying, setting of impedance relays for line protection, pilot wires and transmission line differential protection, high impedance fault detection in distribution feeders, emerging techniques in protection system design. Power quality and harmonics - sources of harmonics, non-linear loads, power conditioning equipment, arc furnace, static var compensators, distortion in voltages and currents, total harmonic distortion, harmonic reduction techniques, voltage sag, swell and flickering, improving techniques for power quality, Cost penalty of power quality, use of software in the design of filters, Neutral current and harmonics.
