Double Degree in Communication and Cultural Studies and Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies

Introduction
This double degree combines offerings in Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies with Australian and Intercultural Studies - Australian culture and society from intercultural comparative perspectives. Cultural Studies - contemporary cultural theories. Gender Studies - understanding of gender and sexuality. Literary Studies - how literary texts articulate cultural values. Performance Studies - practical skills in an historical and cultural context. Professional writing and presentation - professional communicators in a wide range of fields. Publishing practice - skills, roles and contexts of publishing.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, applicants should have completed TEE English or English Literature, a minimum of 60 per cent is desirable. Applicants may be requested to attend an interview and testing at Curtin, to assess their current level of education. Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability
The course is of four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation
Students undertake one major in Australian and Intercultural Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Literary Studies, Performance Studies, Professional Writing and Presentation or Publishing Practice in combination with the major in Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two areas. In this event, the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
