Introduction

This master by coursework is designed for information technology or electronic commerce professionals who wish to increase their knowledge or skills in the management and strategic application of information technology in global electronic business environments. The program combines theory, research and practice and incorporates a range of new concepts, methodologies and technologies aimed at supporting organisations in achieving corporate objectives by the application of computing and communications based technologies in electronic business environments.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Necessary for entry into Stage I, candidates must hold a degree in a computing-related discipline from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or an equivalent qualification. For entry into Stage II of the course, a candidate must hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology or an appropriate honours degree, in addition, a minimum course average of 65 per cent in prior studies is required for entry into Stage II.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who have already completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic Business may apply for recognition of prior learning of up to a total of 200 credits. No exemptions will be given, although units may be substituted at the School's discretion. Other units may be approved by the Manager Postgraduate Programs.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is four semesters full time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards

A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic Business may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award, subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Course Organisation

The areas studied in Stage I include - managing information systems projects and risks, collaborative technologies, enterprise network infrastructure, web design and architecture, object oriented programming and problem solving. Stage II - incorporates advanced coursework involving strategies for web management, enterprise network security, web services and research methods. Students may choose to undertake a research project or optional units covering strategic alignment of information systems, business intelligence and cyberwarfare, datamining and advanced database management, enterprise network management, statistical data analysis, strategic logistics management or internet enabling technologies.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society and the British Computing Society.

Career Opportunities

Masters graduates generally find employment in management and leadership roles within private and public organisations carrying out electronic business.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
