Double Degree in Social Science and Secondary Education

Introduction

This double degree in Social Sciences and Secondary Education provides students with a broad education in anthropology, geography, history, politics or sociology, combined with a professional training which meets the requirements of the relevant educational bodies.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

None.

Specific Requirements

The Faculty of Education requires all students to pass a literacy and numeracy competence test in the first year of the degree. Applicants for this course should refer to the Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication. STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

Students undertake the Anthropology, Geography, History, Politics or Sociology major in combination with the Secondary Education major. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two areas. In this event, the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.

# Students must select a minimum of 8 (or equivalent unit value) of these specified optional units as the Anthropology major.
* In addition, students select 6 optional units or 2 optional units and 1 minor (4 units) from the Undergraduate Units/Minors Available in the School of Social Sciences (or equivalent credits).
** For Years 2 and 3, students must also select ONE unit per semester from this selection (Curriculum Major/Minor). Semester one is the education major and semester two the education minor.
