296511 v.3 Master of Commerce (Business Law)

MCom(Curtin)

Introduction

This is a specialised research course designed to advance knowledge in selected areas of the business law discipline through research and analysis.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

An undergraduate degree or equivalent in business, economics, commerce or related field and an appropriate Postgraduate Diploma in Business, or an appropriate honours degree first or upper second class, or a Bachelor of Laws degree with business or legal practice experience. A course weighted average of 70 per cent in the Postgraduate Diploma in Business is required by applicants commencing without an appropriate honours or Bachelor of Laws degree.

Duration and Availability

The course is by research and normally requires one years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Postgraduate Coordinator, School of Business Law. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration. Applicants interested in this course should contact the Postgraduate Coordinator prior to enrolment to discuss the proposed research to identify if a suitable supervisor is available.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.

Special Note

It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework. Students should not enrol in this research course to receive the Postgraduate Diploma in Business (Business Law) but rather have undertaken it as a requisite for admission (if required). The Curtin Business School provides facilities and benefits for those studying this course by research, including access to suitable computer facilities, office space, financial assistance to attend appropriate intra or interstate conferences and towards associated research costs.
