Introduction

This course is designed to provide an understanding of the ways in which the field of information management is developing, and to enhance technical skills.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A three year bachelors degree in any discipline, plus relevant professional experience, or a four year honours degree in any discipline. As the course is heavily dependent on computer skills, applicants should develop competency in word-processing, and use of Internet browser software before commencement of the course.

Specific Requirements

Regular and reliable Internet access is required.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants professionally qualified in either librarianship or records management and with professional experience will be eligible for recognition of prior learning of up to one year.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is of three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards

A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Information and Library Studies or the Graduate Diploma in Records Management and Archives, subject to the approval of the Head of School. Course Organisation

The first year consists of professionally orientated units in information and library studies or records management and archives. In the final semester, students are expected to undertake higher degree coursework in relevant information units or take units within other relevant schools within the University. There is opportunity to undertake an applied research project and present a final report.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study. Students may incur a cost for personal Internet access.
