190504 v.4 Master of Applied Cultural Heritage Studies

MAppCultHeritStds(Curtin)

Introduction

This course provides an opportunity to complete an extended piece of original work under supervision. Students develop a project around an applied outcome, such as an exhibition, a major catalogue, a public programme, and policy analysis or development.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelors degree (or equivalent) with honours or a postgraduate diploma in a discipline relevant to a proposed research topic. Applicants are expected to have received the equivalent of first or upper second-class honours. In cases where these requirements are not met, they will need to demonstrate substantial work experience in the relevant field and the ability to write to publication level.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is of one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. Coursework units are also available through distance education.

Course Organisation

As well as an individual project, the course also provides students with two coursework units at postgraduate level - one in museology and the other in heritage management. These two units will provide an appropriate background for most cultural heritage projects.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
