BA(Curtin)

Introduction

This multidisciplinary course focuses upon the value of objects, events, places and practices of the past, and their significance for the present and the future. It provides an understanding of the processes involved in the social production of heritagevalues and the transmission of such values from the past to the present and future, while meeting the professional requirements for a career in the heritage industry.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Interview and folio presentation - only for Art or Photography streams.

Specific Requirements

STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is three years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Most units are available in the external mode.

Course Organisation

Students are required to complete 40 days supervised practical experience in selected applied heritage situations. Students may select a double major with anthropology, geography, history, politics and sociology or a stream within the single Cultural Heritage Studies major with topics in architecture and culture, art (visual culture), photography, environmental biology, information studies, literature. These majors and streams are selected in consultation with the Course Coordinator.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
