Introduction

This double degree is designed to provide a basis in and appreciation of the scientific discipline of psychology as well as the human resource management and industrial relations professions. It also provides a foundation for graduate studies in either professional application or research.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

None. TEE Applicable or Discrete Mathematics desirable.

Specific Requirements

Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication. STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is five years full-time or equivalent part-time study. External study is available on a limited basis. Summer semester unit availability may shorten the course duration.

Course Organisation

Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition

Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Human Resource Institute. A fourth year in psychology is necessary to apply for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and for provisional registration as a psychologist. In Western Australia two years supervised psychological practice after fourth year or completion of a two-year masters program is required for full registration as a psychologist. For full membership of the APS a masters degree is required.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
