112130 v.4 Enabling Course in Engineering, Science and Computing

EnabCrseEngSc(Curtin)

Introduction

This course is designed to provide foundation studies for students intending to undertake bachelor degrees in the Division of Engineering, Science and Computing. It is particularly suitable for those who have not had an opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in sciences and mathematics and is primarily designed for females studying in a non-traditional field of education. Successful completion of the course will satisfy the University's matriculation requirements with students eligible to enrol in a bachelor degree program in the Division of Engineering, Science and Computing. Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds may be directed to English language bridging courses. This course is primarily designed for female students.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Applicants who have had limited educational opportunity are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on an assessment of a personal portfolio and an interview. This may include secondary school and TAFE studies, other scholastic achievements and community involvement.

Duration and Availability

The course is one year full-time study. It is only available on a part-time basis in special circumstances.

Course Organisation

A study program is determined by the Undergraduate Coordinator following an interview and an assessment of career pathways by the student. Depending on units undertaken, this may not be a standard full-time load. It is a Government directive that students undertaking this enabling course can only undertake designated enabling/bridging units. Students intending to study mainstream units may only undertake them in accordance with their conditions of admission and then only as part of a non-award extension fee paying program.

Additional Course Expenses

This course is HECS exempt for Australian citizens and or permanent residents. Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
