Syllabus: | In this unit, students undertake the first part of a comprehensive, individual research project on a chemical engineering topic under the guidance of an academic supervisor. The project may be experimental, simulation-oriented, theoretical or industry-based. Each student will be introduced to the methods and conventions of engineering research, conduct a literature review into the research topic, formulate a research plan to meet the project’s objectives, apply appropriate methods to collect and analyse preliminary data, and report the findings through journals, meetings and reports. The project may involve learning about new experimental or theoretical techniques, new equipment or new software, and projects involving laboratory work will require performing safety training and risk assessments. The project is concluded in Chemical Engineering Research Project 2. |
