This major is one of five in the Master of Media and Communication course. Interactive media and visualisation technologies relate to the innovative use of visualisation technologies and interactive media as means of communication. Visualisation and interactive media encompass a wide area of applications, such as in digital games, art and entertainment, social media, mobile media, virtual and augmented reality, 3D, user-generated content, interactive cinema and digital humanities. The program is multi-disciplinary, covering media, management and business, content production, and latest media technologies. The course also aims at addressing visualisation technologies in application areas such as medicine, health care, architecture, archaeology, education and business applications to create digital environments, communicate and interact with data visually and manage communication in virtual, augmented and smart realities. The program is focused on emerging visualisation and interactive media platforms, such as 3D, ubiquitous media, big data applications, digital humanities and crowd phenomena. You will explore the critical and practical aspects of new technologies, their social and cultural impact on our lives and the way we work with them now and in the future. You will learn to communicate with interactive media and images; present and interact with information graphically; develop mobile applications; digitally re-create cultures lost in the past; create new digital interactive worlds; explore emerging new forms of media; learn the management and business aspects of the rapidly changing world of media and its technologies; explore the creative side of interactive visualisations and explore trends like crowdfunding, Big Data, digital humanities and 3D from a content/business/technology viewpoint. This major is designed to provide you with advanced skills and insights to be able to use these technologies and devices in your current or future professions or creative practice. You may choose to develop these skills in association with another media and communication discipline or specialise in visualisation technologies as an area of professional practice or research in its own right.
