Syllabus:

Photography Component - This component is a project-based introduction to the use, control and operation of still photographic film and digital cameras. Core technical concepts such as, camera use, types and systems, location lighting principles, introductory studio lighting and technique, will be covered. The program will also, by acknowledging the social underpinnings of photography, introduce some of the major contextual issues that impact upon the medium. Colour Component - The program is based onthe notion that greater awareness, understanding and control of the different aspects of appearance can lead to more effective communication in design. For the purposes of the program 'colour' also includes tone, surface quality and degrees of transparency and opacity. From a sequence of experiences and assignments students build a 'toolkit' of concepts that can be applied in design and they assemble a permanent sources of reference from their notes and assignment work.
