Introduction

This course provides students with agribusiness management and marketing education and training combined with technical education in a number of new technological areas at a more advanced level than the existing three year agribusiness (horticulture) program. Students will develop an understanding of new horticultural technologies along with those of horticultural production. This course will provide an opportunity to meet the need for managers who understand new technologies and are able to apply them within an agribusiness framework. The learning model enables students to gain skills that will enable them to assume leadership roles within the agribusiness (horticulture) sector.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Applicants must meet the University's standard entry requirements. Selection is based on the Tertiary Entry Rank and satisfactory performance in the TEE.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is four years full-time duration and is available on a part-time and external basis.

Course Organisation

The horticultural technology program in the agribusiness program consists of amenity horticulture, fruit and vegetable production, agribusiness management, accounting and finance, and new technologies in horticulture including biotechnology. Students with a greater than 65% average may elect to complete the Honours Horticultural Technology Stream in fourth year. Refer to the admission into honours degree programs and regulations in the general information section of the handbook.

Professional Recognition

Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Institute Agricultural Science (AIAIS).

Career Opportunities

Graduates will find employment with industries associated with the supply chain of the horticulture industry, within parks and gardens departments of local government and within the service industries associated with the horticulture industry.
