Introduction

This professional masters course is designed for experienced professionals in electronic business or information technology who recognise the need to increase their knowledge and skills in the planning, application and management of global electronic business environments. The course incorporates a range of new concepts, methodologies and technologies aimed at supporting organisations in achieving corporative objectives by the application of computing and communications based technologies in electronic business environments.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A minimum of two years relevant information systems/information technology industry experience is necessary for entry, in addition to a 65 per cent course average in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a computing-related discipline. Applicants must provide evidence of their industry experience. Students wishing to undertake a PhD should enrol in the Master of Commerce (Electronic Business).

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is one and a half years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards I

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course appear below.

Course Organisation

The Master of Electronic Business consists of 12 units of study each carrying a weighting of 25 credits, totalling 300 credits. The core areas studied includes managing information systems projects and risks, enterprise network infrastructure, information security management, object-oriented programming, web design and architecture, organisational behaviour, research methods and problem-solving. Students may undertake a research project or choose optional units from the areas of object-oriented design, data mining and advanced database design, enterprise network security, strategic logistics management, web services, enterprise network management, strategic alignment of information systems, business intelligence and cyber warfare.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society and the British Computing Society.

Career Opportunities

Masters graduates generally find employment in management and leadership roles within private and public organisations carrying out electronic business.
