305576 v.2 Geoscience Major

Introduction

This major prepares students to work as geotechnical and geological assistants within the minerals exploration and mining industry. Typical duties include sampling for grade control and exploration, the collection of geotechnical data, basic mapping, computer drafting and database management and environmental monitoring. The first year provides a basic grounding in mathematics, chemistry and physics. The second year introduces the student to a range of practical skills directly relevant to the minerals industry.
