Introduction (HB)

This course educates students in conceptual and theoretical aspects of academic practice, provides them with research methodologies appropriate to their honours project and the practical experience of applying concepts to investigation through the production of a dissertation or creative project and exegesis.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability (HB)

Honours is normally completed in one year of full-time study or its part-time equivalent.

Course Organisation (HB)

In the first half of the course, students undertake a unit in concepts and theories (50 credits), a unit in methodologies appropriate to their research topic (25 credits) and a unit of supervised thesis preparation (25 credits), and for the second half of the course, the production of a dissertation or creative project and exegesis (100 credits).

Career Opportunities

An honours degree is a prerequisite for research and other higher degrees. An honours degree may also attract higher status and rates of pay in employment.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
