Syllabus: Carbon chemistry: fullerenes and nanotubes. History of their discovery, methods of synthesis, properties and applications in nanotechnology. Miniaturisation in electronics: microelectronic fabrication, basics of photolithography, nanofabrication, ion beam techniques. Thin films: chemical and physical deposition techniques, bottom-up and top-down preparation, applications of thin films in sensors and electronics. Miniaturisation in analytical chemistry: advantages and challenges of miniaturisation of analytical chemistry processes, microfluidics and flow analytical chemistry, Micro-Total Analysis Systems.
