Syllabus: Molecular techniques including gene cloning and recombinant DNA technology: construction and screening of DNA libraries, gene analysis, polymerase chain reaction (PCR). DNA sequencing, genomics and bioinformatics. Application of molecular techniques in the manufacture of biopharmaceutical gene therapy and the creation of transgenic plants and animals. Application of molecular techniques in disease diagnosis, paternity testing and forensic science. Selected topics of immunology, especially the cytokines and antibodies, their roles in immune processes and their diagnostic significance. Molecular aspects of antibody functions, and development and applications of the engineered antibodies. Antibody idotypes, their role in immune regulation and their applications to the induction of immunity and treatment of disease.
