Syllabus: Tools of molecular genetics: enzymes, cloning vectors, labelling of DNA. Nucleic acid manipulation techniques: DNA, RNA extraction and hybridisation. Genomic and DNA library construction and screening. Polymerase chain reaction: principle methods, applications in clinical diagnosis. DNA sequencing and applications: site-directed mutagenesis. Applications of DNA technology: genetic disease and cancer diagnosis. Gene therapy and genetic counselling.
