Lecture: 1 x 3 Hours Weekly
Practical: 1 x 2 Hours Weekly
Syllabus: Develops an in-depth understanding and analysis of mining processes and systems and their key drivers. Core risk identification and mitigation. Method infrastructure requirements. The mining systems and issues to be considered include the following: dragline systems, shovel-truck systems, high wall mining, bucket wheel excavator systems, placer mining, large scale open pit, small scale mining, dilution and loss control, blending, mine to mill: reserve to customer. Design, placement, construction and maintenance of haul roads, waste dumps and stockpiles. Development strategies including prestrip, pushbacks/cutbacks. Dewatering, sumps. Students also complete a method selection/planning mini-project.
