Introduction

Increasing accountability and reporting requirements means that research management, innovation and commercialisation are key skills for researchers of the next generation. This award has been developed by Curtin University of Technology, the Universityof South Australia, RMIT, the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Technology, Sydney. It will enable researchers to focus their work in such a way as to maximise the likelihood of commercial success while providing the skills and understanding in aspects of research governance, marketing and knowledge transfer. It has been designed for those who are engaged in research careers in one or more capacities: conducting funded research projects; leading a team of researchers; preparing research grant applications; supervising students undertaking research degrees; providing organisational support for funded research projects and those contributing to broader strategic and policy initiatives relating to research and particularly its commercialisation.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Entry requires completion at a recognised tertiary institution of a degree at bachelor level with first or second class honours, or a postgraduate diploma in a relevant discipline. A minimum of four years of full-time equivalent study is required. Current enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research is necessary for participation in the DEST Commercialisation Training Scheme.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is one semester full-time equivalent study. All units are offered online only. Students will require regular and reliable Internet access. Part-time study is only available with the prior approval of the course coordinator. Prospective students should consult the Office of Research and Development to ascertain the availability and duration of Commercialisation Training Scheme (CTS) places.

Career Opportunities

Graduates find employment in both management and research fields within industry, universities, and areas where research is a priority.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
