Introduction

This course develops expertise in the area of health promotion with an additional focus on health and safety. The areas of study will include health education and workplace injury prevention, developing complimentary skills that will qualify the graduatein the field of health promotion. It emphasises prevention of disease and the importance of staying healthy throughout one's life, creating healthy environments and is particularly relevant for jobs in government, community and workplace environments, where the focus is on implementing systems for the prevention of injury in the workplace.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

At least one TEE Science Subject. Human Biology and Applicable Mathematics or Discrete Mathematics desirable.

STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q. Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening and Clearance Section of this publication.

Note

Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:

Course Organisation

Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event, the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition

Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Health Promotion Association (Health Promotion) and membership to the Safety Institute of Australia (Health and Safety).
