Syllabus:

The practical writing of a business plan and the practical issues of starting a company are the focus of this unit. Focus will be on enterprise ventures in the science, engineering and technology (SET) sectors. Case studies will be real business cases with the aim of giving practical insight of issues and techniques learned from the other course units. Focusing on a number of issues of key importance for business start-ups, this unit places emphasis on advice and support available in developing the business plan. The importance of creativity and innovation in SET entrepreneurship is addressed. Particular emphasis is placed on sensible risk management and frameworks for assessing risks are presented using a variety of risk assessment and modeling techniques.
