Syllabus:

Strategic plans set out the long-term focus of the business, its mission, vision and attempt to understand the environment in which the business operates. Develops concepts and techniques of strategy analysis appropriate for the science, engineering and technology (SET) environment. A systems framework is adopted and complex systems science introduced as a model for business. Attention is given to transferring strategy into action and project management is presented as the decisions required for implementation of the strategy. Risk associated with the SET environment is a central focus of the unit. The value and application of both quantitative and qualitative risk assessment strategies is addressed. The underlying nature of uncertainty, vulnerability and hazard associated with SET entrepreneurship is developed together with techniques that enable the threats to be mitigated and opportunities realised. The value of process-based approaches with evidential reasoning is developed.
