Introduction

This collaborative program is undertaken at the four Western Australian public universities - Curtin University of Technology, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia. It is designed for professionals wanting to obtain a wide ranging, multidisciplinary qualification in the transport field and draws on the established strengths of the four universities, exploiting the transport specialisations of each. In doing this, the program is able to offer both greater depth and breadth than any single institution and provides a unique opportunity to cover the multidisciplinary dimensions of transport planning relevant to society today. The course covers policy and practice in public and private transport systems, transport planning, logistics and supply chain management, transport safety, modelling, urban planning and accessibility as well as transport sustainability. It is intended to meet the needs of students and employers by producing graduates of high quality with the fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical skills in transport planning.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A four-year degree or a three-year degree in a related discipline including planning, engineering, economics, commerce and/or business and work experience as deemed appropriate by the Course Coordinator.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis, however students must still complete one core unit at each of the participating universities.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. At this stage it is not offered to international students.

Course Organisation

Students take four core units from each participating university and three optional units. Students also undertake a research component comprising of research methods and a research dissertation and seminar (equivalent of four units).

Career Opportunities

Graduates will find employment in transport-related industries in the planning and infrastructure fields of government and in the private sector, including planning and transport consultants, bus operating companies, airport operators, railway companies,freight transport and shipping companies.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.

Special Note

Students may enrol at any one of the four participating institutions to undertake this collaborative program provided they satisfy course entry/prerequisite requirements. Students who have nominated Curtin as their enrolling institution and will be admitted at Curtin, undertake Curtin units (including the project dissertation) and complete units at the other participating institutions on a cross-institutional basis. All units undertaken will appear in the Curtin academic transcript. Curtin will award the degree on satisfactory completion, bearing the crests of all participating institutions. Students who have nominated another of the participating institutions as their enrolling institution and will complete Curtin units cross-institutionally under a non-award program and have those units credited towards their degree. Unit fees are paid at each institution where units are undertaken.
