300241 v.3 Bachelor of Science (Geophysics) (Honours)

BSc(Hons)(Curtin)

Course CRICOS Code: 043271K
Registered full-time Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas: 1 Year

Introduction

This course aims to extend students' knowledge of current academic research methodology as it is applied in the field of geophysics and to demonstrate this through the conduct of a supervised research project and preparation of an honours dissertation.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Refer to Admission into Honours Degree Programs (General Information section).

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

The course structure is a combination of the following: advanced studies in Geophysics - one to four full units. Advanced geophysics workshop - up to four full units. Honours dissertation - two to four full units. Background studies - up to two full units. A dissertation unit is chosen in consultation with the course coodinator or Head of Department. The optional units listed are only an example of units that can be taken. Other units are available following consultation with the course coordinator or Head of Department.

Professional Recognition

This course is accredited by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. An honours degree in Geophysics satisfies the academic requirements for membership to the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (USA), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers, and the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
