Syllabus: Entrepreneurship is critically dependent on personal skills and character. This unit introduces a range of techniques and skills aimed to assess and develop personal qualities essential for successful entrepreneurship. The unit introduces concepts that can describe and communicate the qualities of self awareness and self management. Those qualities of social awareness and relationship management which enable enterprise to flourish are described and assessed in terms of systems theory. The same qualities within organisations are addressed within the context of intrapreneurship. Particular emphasis is placed on differences in culture across the SET landscape. Understanding the social nature of enterprise in science, engineering and technology (SET) is critical. The unit addresses the context of creativity, innovation and risk in high-tech industries and focuses on complex nature of the business environment. The concept of organizations as complex adaptive systems is developed.
