Introduction

This course develops awareness in dealing with management issues, marketing and the strategic planning of a wine business for domestic wine consumption and exportation. The major disciplines of viticulture, and wine business management are integrated. Itis aimed at people employed in the wine industry requiring extended knowledge in the wine marketing and management functions of the wine producer.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. Applicants employed for a minimum of three years by a wine producer in a management function may apply on the basis of prior learning. Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Wine Business Management may provide direct entry into this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards

A student who has successfully completed all the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Wine Marketing may apply under exceptional circumstances provisions for graduation in that award, subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Course Organisation

The principles of grape and wine production and an introduction to managerial accounting and finance as applied to wine business enterprises, resource management as practiced in the wine industry, key issues in vineyard business management. Business-to-business marketing. Market segmentation. Market research. Strategic marketing. Processes of business and marketing planning. Preparation of a business plan for a product or whole business.

Professional Recognition

Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Institute Agricultural Science (AIAIS).

Career Opportunities

Graduates will find employment with industries associated with the supply chain of the viticultural industry, particularly in wine marketing.
