Introduction

This professional masters program is designed for experienced information systems or information technology professionals who recognise the need to increase their knowledge or skills in the planning, development, application and management of informationtechnology and innovation in competitive, global business environments. This program incorporates a range of new concepts, methodologies and technologies aimed at supporting organisations in achieving corporative objectives with leading edge technologies.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A minimum of two years relevant Information Systems/Information Technology industry experience is necessary for entry in addition to a 65 per cent minimum course average in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a computing-related discipline. Applicants must provide evidence of their industry experience. Students wishing to undertake a PhD should enrol in the Master of Commerce (Information Technology).

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards

A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award, subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Course Organisation

The Master of Information Technology consists of 12 units of study. The core areas studied include managing information systems projects and risks, business information technology management, enterprise network infrastructure, web design and architecture, data mining and advanced database management, enterprise network management and problem solving. Students may choose optional units from the areas of object-oriented design, information security management, enterprise network security, statistical data analysis, web platform design and development, strategic alignment of information systems, computer forensics, business intelligence and cyberwarfare.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing-related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society.

Career Opportunities

Postgraduates generally find employment in supervisory and management roles within private and public organisations utilizing information technology, or design and development of IT systems.
