This unit has been designed to introduce students to a variety of editorial illustration briefs. Editorial illustration involves designing illustrations for newspapers, magazines, flyers, annual reports and book jackets. Students learn to study texts at different levels and take into account different perspectives on issues. Emphasis is placed on understanding conceptual frameworks to generate ideas. The intention is to provide students vital experience within this area for future reference as professional illustrators or competent designers. The narrative structure of illustration and basic visual communication principles will be discussed within an international context. Students can choose to either follow given projects (industry related briefs) or design their own relevant project briefs.
