Syllabus:

Chemistry of carbonyl compounds and polyfunctional aliphatic compounds including carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids. Reaction mechanisms and industrial applications. Infra-red and ultra-violet spectroscopy. Laboratory work - preparative organic chemistry illustrating techniques and reaction types. Identification of unknown organic compounds using chemical and spectroscopic methods. Quantitative organic analysis
