Syllabus:

Construction Technology - earthworks - Types and uses of earthmoving plant, components in earthmoving machines. Earthworks volumes and centroids, mass haul diagrams, machine cycle times, optimisation of production, queuing theory, tyre selection. Costingof earthmoving plant. Methods of excavation, dewatering, piles, diaphragm walls, sheet piling systems. Materials - Principles of fire prevention and building codes. Compartmentation, means of egress. Active and passive fire protection. Fire testing ofmaterials, fire ratings. Selection of materials through performance. Paint technology. Sealants. Energy efficient buildings. Bitumen and bituminous surfacings.
