Syllabus:

Energy methods of beam deflection. Columns, thick cylinders. Rotating members. Introduction to theory of elasticity and stress concentrations. Failure mechanisms in metals. Estimation of fatigue life. Stress concentrations and their effects. Cumulativedamage assessment. Analysis of fatigue fracture surfaces. Introduction to linear elastic fracture mechanics. Fracture toughness.
