Syllabus:

Semiconductor optical sources and detectors. Optical receivers - noise modelling and receiver sensitivity, transimpedance and frequency response. Optical fibre amplifiers. Optical fibre propagation, dispersion and attenuation. Optical fibre communications system - power budgeting, loss limited design, dispersion limited design. Passive optical devices. Design of optical communication receivers.
