Syllabus:

Process and plant design studies, design criteria, metallurgical test programs, effect of mineralogy and mining on process design, safety and environmental considerations, site location, flowsheet development and simulation, heat and material balances, equipment selection and sizing, preliminary cost estimation. Students choose an ore or mineral deposit and develop a flowsheet based on various data. A final report and flowsheet are produced to assess the students grasp and understanding of the design procedures. The outcomes will be presented in a report but the total emphasis is on the technical aspects of the process design.
