Syllabus:

Urban(e) discourses - a study of the notion of the city in Western culture, with particular reference to the post-industrial city, and including the very recent phenomenon of 'conurbation'. Topics include - the culture of the city, notions of pastoral asan urban discourse, the flaneur, the literature of the city (eg, detective fiction, science fiction, fantasy fiction). Topics change from time to time.
