Introduction


This program focuses on the design and management of information technology and is designed for students with a desire to understand the basics of, or update their skills in information technology. The Graduate Certificate develops a student who, with learning of both a theoretical and practical nature, will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in the information technology environment.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites


Entrance requirements are a pass grade in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a computing-related discipline. No relevant Information Systems/Information Technology experience is necessary for entry to this program.

Recognition of Prior Learning


No recognition of prior learning will be given, although units may be substituted at the School's discretion. Other units may be approved by the Manager Postgraduate Programs.

Duration and Availability


This fee paying course is six months full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation


This course consists of four units of study each carrying a weighting of 25 credits, totalling 100 credits.The core areas studied include managing information systems projects and risks, information technology management, information security management,problem solving and the human aspects of organisations. It is the first stage (four units) of the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology.

Professional Recognition


With a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society.

Career Opportunities


Graduates generally find employment in teams involved in the design and development of Information Technology systems.

Additional Course Expenses


Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
