Introduction


This double degree in Communication and Cultural Studies and Multimedia Design combines cultural studies knowledge and related expertise, with the theoretical background and design proficiency in multimedia.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites


TEE English or English Literature, minimum scaled mark of 60 desirable. Folio presentation and interview may be required.

Note


Applicants may be required to produce evidence of special aptitude and creative skills to the School of Art. Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.

Recognition of Prior Learning


Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability


This course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation


Students undertake one major in Australian and Intercultural Studies, Creative Writing, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Literary Studies, Performance Studies, Professional Writing and Presentation or Publishing Practice with the major in Multimedia Design. Fifty per cent of units are taken in the School of Communication and Cultural Studies and the other half in the School of Design. In the Communication and Cultural Studies majors, students under take the equivalent of 6 full units of compulsory coreunits, a major to the equivalent of 8 full units in Communication and Cultural Studies and in their fourth year, the equivalent of 2 full units of recommended electives. In the Multimedia Design major, students under take the equivalent of 6 full units of design foundation studies, the equivalent 2 full units of visual communication design specialism and the equivalent of 8 full units of multimedia specialism studies which includes the planning, design and production of a major project. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Additional Course Expenses


Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study. Some units within this course may have a field component, for which costs may be incurred.
