Double Degree in Communication and Cultural Studies and Secondary Education

Introduction


This double degree in Communication and Cultural Studies and Secondary Education meets the requirements of the relevant educational bodies.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites


TEE English or English Literature, minimum scaled mark of 60 desirable.

Specific Requirements


STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q. Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication.

Note


Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees. The Faculty of Education requires all students to pass a literacy and numeracy competence test in the first year of the degree.

Recognition of Prior Learning


Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability


The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation


Students undertake one major in Australian and intercultural studies, creative writing, cultural studies, gender studies, literary studies, performance studies, professional writing and presentation and publishing practice in combination with the secondary education major. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two areas. In this event, the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Additional Course Expenses


Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
