Double Degree in Social Science and Applied Geology


BSocSc(Curtin), BSc(Curtin)

Introduction


This double degree in Social Sciences and Applied Geology provides a broad education in anthropology, geography, history, politics or sociology combined with professional training in applied geology. It provides resource professionals with a wider understanding of the social, cultural and political contexts within which they operate.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites


One TEE mathematics subject.

Specific Requirements


STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Recognition of Prior Learning


Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability


The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation


Students undertake the Anthropology, Geography, History, Politics or Sociology major in combination with the Applied Geology major. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of Department/School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition


The Australian Institute of Geoscientists, the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Geological Society of Australia accept graduates for membership.

Additional Course Expenses


Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
