Double Degree in Asian Studies and Media and Information


BA(Curtin), BA(Curtin)

Introduction


This double degree in Asian Studies and Media and Information combines studies in media and information with studies in an Asian language, culture and society. Graduates find careers in areas such as public relations, advertising, media management, library and information services, web publishing and broadcasting in multi-national companies, government departments and public institutions, especially in an international context.

Specific Requirements


STAT elements considered are E and V and Q.

Note


Entrants to the double degree are expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.

Recognition of Prior Learning


Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability


The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study. A limited number of units are available in the external study mode. Most language units are available in the internal mode only.

Course Organisation


Students undertake the major in Asian Studies in combination with one major in Film and Television, Internet Studies, Journalism, Librarianship and Corporate Information, Media Studies or Multimedia Design. Students enrolled in the double degree programmay elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two areas. In this event, the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition


Relevant professional recognition is granted on the same basis as to graduates of the component single degrees.

Additional Course Expenses


Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
