Introduction


This double degree provides students with a broad but integrated background in Geographic Information Science and Geography focussing on a wide range of human and environmental issues. It equips students with the technical competencies and analytical skills to find employment in a variety of business, research, government and educational contexts involving analysis, modelling and management of spatial information.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites


Applicable Mathematics. Alternative mathematics units are available for applicants who have completed Discrete Mathematics.

STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Recognition of Prior Learning


Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability


The course is four years full time study and may be undertaken on either a full time or a part time basis.

Course Organisation


Students undertake both the Geography major and the Geographic Information Science major. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two areas. In this event, the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition


The undergraduate degree in Geographic Information Science has received level one accreditation by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). Graduates are immediately eligible for associate membership with full membership following four years of professional practice. Graduates may also obtain membership of the Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI).

Additional Course Expenses


Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
