Introduction

This course enables students to extend their knowledge of current academic research methodology in the theoretical and applied areas of geographic information science. This will be demonstrated through studying specialised units and the conduct of a supervised research project and presentation of an honours dissertation.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Refer to Admission into Honours Degree Programs and Regulations for Honours Degrees (General Information section).

Duration and Availability

The honours degree program is of one year's full-time duration after the completion of the Bachelor of Science (Geographic Information Science). It is also available on a part-time basis over two years. Students with other relevant degrees of suitable standard may also be admitted to this program.

Course Organisation

Any senior undergraduate unit conducted by the Department of Spatial Sciences is available as an elective unit provided it has not been completed as part of course requirements. Selected postgraduate units offered by the Department of Spatial Sciences may also be available as elective units taken as GIS Topics 481 or 482. Selected units from other Schools may also be studied as elective units. No more than four half units may be studied as electives in a semester. A student's study program, or alterations to it, must be approved by the Head of Department.
