Syllabus: This unit overviews, describes and explains the strategic global business environment in which virtually all contemporary organisations are operating in. After identifying the national level drivers of globalisation, the geopolitical context of the global economic landscape is presented. The rise of global institutions and the risky environment in which organisations operate are studied. Furthermore, issues like global production, outsourcing, logistics and sustainability and the strategies associated with the same for global organisations are understood. Next, the rise of the global services economy within the backdrop of the knowledge industry is elucidated. Lastly, the important managerial skills/competencies/values of global managers are identified and a new framework for Global Human Resources is presented. This unit is relevant to private and public sector managers, internal agency administrators and professionals seeking to acquire greater insight into global business trends, strategies and operations.
