Syllabus (HB): This unit examines issues in the theory and practice of humour writing in nonfiction texts. The unit introduces students to different genres, styles and publication contexts of humour writing. Topics covered include parody, irony, yarn and anecdote, political satire, domestic humour, the role of the humour columnist, stand up comedy, stunt comedy, speech writing, humour in memoir, humour writing and the internet, humour writing in cross cultural contexts, humour writing and gender, and humour in the workplace.
